Is Foursquare Poised To Break Through With The Zagat Deal?

Foursquare’s geo-location content took another step in a big direction today, announcing new partnerships with a plethora of companies to expand their system and add additional content.

The Zagat Deal

Quite possibly the most significant deal is the one between Zagat and Foursquare, which will contribute a plethora of new food-related content and reviews for the service. Yes, it is common for people to check into restaurants and eateries, so expect this deal to be well-worth it for both parties.

A new “foodie” badge will be offered to users who check into a given number of Zagat-rated restaurants. In addition, Zagat plans on creating “Meet The Mayor” videos and offering incentives for individuals who become the mayor of Zagat-rated restaurants.

The article notes that Zagat had been losing attention to services like Yelp, which makes one wonder if Zagat will work with Foursquare to develop a user review system. Regardless, Zagat should benefit greatly from partnering with Foursquare.

Other Opportunities To Emerge?

In addition to Zagat, Foursquare is about to enter content deals with Bravo TV, Warner Bros. and HBO. Bravo television shows will be implemented into the game aspects, but it is still unknown how they will go about doing this.

The new romantic comedy “Valentines Day” will be promoted heavily through the Warner Bros. record and an announcement for plans with HBO is also yet to be seen.

Is Foursquare Headed In The Right Direction?

It remains to be seen if these partnerships will be as successful as the company hopes, but I can’t see how someone can’t be optimistic after Foursquare signed the Zagat deal. The deal should make a tremendous immediate impact on Foursquare’s foodie users.

The popularity of the system could explode if Zagat and Foursquare find a way to make the game even more meaningful through various incentives.

What are your thoughts on the Zagat deal and the potential content deals with the other companies? Do you believe Foursquare is headed in the right direction?
